1 Aus.Dollar= 79 Yen To live in an apartment in Japan for three months would be about 50,000 Yen per month for a deposit-free guest house. That would be 1899 dollars for three months. If you wanted your own apartment (and if someone was willing to rent it to you) you would have to pay up to four extra months rent, two refundable and two not (key money). A guest house is a group house where you have your own furnished room and share the rest of the house with everyone else. You would need at least 3,000 Yen per day for food or meals- so that would be about 3,500 dollars for a three month period. You would need to spend quite a bit on trains, buses, and the subway. A three week JR Rail Pass (so you could travel around by bullet train) is 57,700 Yen, about 730 dollars. If you combine this with daily, local transportation, you would need several thousand yen per day- so about 1747 dollars more for the remaining 69 days. You should also allow money for shopping, clothes, and souvenirs- maybe 200,000 Yen or 2,532 dollars. This would also be money for entrance fees and other fixed costs. So all together that would be about 10,408 Australian dollars. You could do it cheaper, but remember that more people run out of money here than go home with extra! You also did not give us any details- coming with a friend or group, how nice or convenient an apartment, what kind of activities you are interested in...
