A lot depends on your lifestyle, how much space you want, what you will eat, and how much you can control your expenses. Living in the country is far cheaper as far as rent goes, but may be more inconvenient for shopping. You could get by on about 30,000 yen a month for food, which means rarely eating out. A small to medium town rent could run you 50-60,000 yen a month for a small one bedroom place. You can get a fair idea of the cost of items at www.tokyopriceguide.com

Roughly how much yen does it cost for one person to live in japan? Rent, food, etc. Rent depends on where you live. If you live in the country side it is cheap. A 2 room apartment can run around 50,000 yen but the same apartment in tokyo will cost about 90,000 yen and up. Living near a train station can be expensive to. Apartments in japan do not come with a stove or heater, so you would have to buy all that to. You can get some furnished places, but they might be more expensive the just a regular one. Does it cost more to live in a city? Some things might be more expensive in the city, then in the country side. But the price of food is pretty much the same. for one person, you could spend about 20,000 on just groceries alone and be fine for a month. fast food place are a little expensive. Take Mc Donalds for example, there value meals start out here about 600 yen for a cheese burger meal with a small coke and fries.the prices go up when you get to bigger burgers. a pizza from pizza hut for dinner cost 3500 yen. the pizza is the size of a medium. If you go out drinking in a bar or a club, drinks can be expensive. a beer runs 600 yen - 800 yen and mix drinks run 900 yen and up. That is all i can think of for now

Living in or near a major city costs more, but is more convenient in terms of accessibility of merchandises. While it is possible to rent an apartment for under 70,000Y/month in the major cities, it is a very rare find. Food is kind of hard to estimate because it depends on what and how much you typically eat. A better means to understand the cost of living in Japan is to look at what a typical Japanese make in 1 month - which about 310,000Y
